It all started around 7:19 a.m. when officers from the 5th District responded to the 12300 block of Silvergate Way following a call to the Emergency Communications Center.

A woman told dispatchers her husband, identified as Marques Buford, wouldn’t let her leave their apartment and the situation escalated when Buford allegedly made threats toward police if they dared to intervene.

Before officers even stepped foot on the scene, a quick records check showed Buford wasn’t exactly a stranger to law enforcement.

When officers arrived, they found Buford outside, wielding a large butcher knife and clad in layers of clothing and a paintball mask, which provided him a form of improvised armor.

An Emergency Response Team was initiated, and SWAT staged in the area while a negotiator worked to de-escalate the situation.

In the end, Buford made a break for it, but officers were ready and quickly apprehended him.

No injuries were reported.

Buford was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being booked at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. He was charged with false imprisonment and remains held without bond.
